Brief Introduction to Silicon Carbide
Carborundum is a kind of carbide of silicon whose molecuiar formula is sic. Silicon carbide is generated by quartz sand(sio2)and braize(c) through reduction reaction under the condition of high temperature. It is a typical compound combined by covalent bond. Its theoretical density is 3.18/cm3. The Moth hartdness is between 9.2 and 9.3.The microhardness is 3300kg/c㎡. Silicon carbide has the properties of high hardness, thermo stability, good electric and heat conductivity and strong radio resistance, and it does not react when encountering strong acid and alkali. Silicon carbide is mainly applied in the industries of grinding tools manufacturing, petroleum, chemical industry, microelectronics, automobile, aerospace and aviation, laser, atomic energy, machinery and metallurgy, such as emery wheel, spray nozzle, sealing element, bearing combustion
